In reading the story, I will assume that Jaime is a male and Casey is a female. The story shows no proof of that but uses the phrase, “ in a low angry voice.” With the information provided I’m not able to determine either of their racial/ethnic background. In my opinion they are married, middle class family and Casey is an at home wife. Reflecting on the story, I learned that we could assume a person’s race, sexuality or socio-economic, however intimate partner violence does not have a race, sexuality, or economic status. If I were to counsel Casey, I would first do an evaluation on Casey to make sure she is not being harmed by her partner or want to harm herself. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, over 20 persons in the United States are physically abused by an intimate partner every minute ( Bray, 2019).
